I understand first hand how difficult it can be to know where to find resources for help. I was raised by a single mother and I am a single mother myself.
Though there can be many hurdles to jump over, the end reward is worth it. Regardless of your age, you are never too old to go back to college and build the life you’ve always dreamed of for both you and your children.

One way for single mothers to blaze their own trail and build the future they desire is to get a college education. While is may sound impossible or overwhelming, it can be done much easier and quicker than you probable expect.
Single Moms Going Back To School
Straighterline - This is an excellent way to get college credit for very inexpensive. The monthly fee is $99.00 and each course is $79.00. You can finish these courses on your own time frame and some have even finished them in a week or two. The one catch here is that these credits only transfer to certain schools for college credit.
Be sure to know which schools those are. Colorado Christian University is one of the schools that accepts Straighterline credits and is a great place for single moms to finish their education. Most degrees are often 100% online and their classes are only 5 weeks long, allowing for quicker completion. They not only accept Straighterline credits but also up to 30 hours of FEMA credits. FEMA courses are free to take but cost $88.00 to transfer. This is an excellent resource to consider. All of this can be done online at your convenience.
Finding Scholarships to go back to school

Another great option to consider is that there are many companies that will pay for your school while you are working for them. Check out those options here. For example, Starbucks has a College Achievement Plan. If you work at-least 20 hours per week, Starbucks will pay for your online education as well as pay you an hourly wage for your work.

Single Moms Going Back to College During Mid-Life
This is a hot topic! Many women decide to go back to school after raising their children. Many of those women are single. While going back to school during mid life will look much different than going to college in your early 20’s the journey can be very rewarding and fulfilling. It is never too late to build the life and future you desire. In fact, many women find going back to school to be freeing and liberating as they are much more aware of the career fields they desire. They likely have work experience and or have stayed home to raise their children and are ready to invest in themselves and their futures.

This means you could gain up to nine hours each five weeks, speeding up the time frame of receiving your degree. It is never too late to go back to school and finish or start the degree of your choice.
What if a College Degree isn’t for you?
There are many other routes to gaining financial independence as a single mom other than a four year college degree. There are many certification programs and technical schools to help you learn skills that you can begin utilizing right away. Taking a few courses at a community college can be very effective in training you for a trade or a skill. There are many career paths that don’t require a Bachelors Degree.

How to Find the Future You Desire as a Single Mom
When looking at options for your future, you have to go back to the most important thing, YOU. Look deep inside and find the things you are naturally good at, the things that make you smile and discover the gifts and talents you already have. These are all things that will likely guide you along your path to finding the educational path you need to do the job that you will enjoy. Choose the path that brings you joy over the path that others think may be right for you. Above all, choose you. As a single mom, myself, someone once told me, “stop waiting for someone to bring you flowers, go plant your own garden.” This is applicable here as well.
