CBC Spouses Education Scholarship

Seeing an educational need in their congressional districts, the CBC Spouses Education Scholarship was established in 1988 by the spouses of Congressional Black Caucus members in response to federal cuts in spending for education programs and scholarships, which disproportionately affect people of color. This scholarship awards scholarships to academically talented and highly motivated students of all majors who intend to pursue full-time undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral degrees. Selected applicants will be qualified African-American or black students.

National $1000 "Countdown to College" Scholarship

This scholarship is for college-bound teens in grades 9th-12th. The scholarship does not require specific test scores, GPA, or class ranking. Parents can also register but will need to designate a student to receive the award. In order to be awarded the scholarship, you must be a current C2C eNews subscriber at the time of the drawing.

The Dutch Crafters Scholsarship

The DutchCrafters Amish Furniture Heritage Scholarship was founded in 2011 as a way to give back to the community by offering education assistance to three outstanding students. This scholarship recognizes undergraduate students who draw upon their cultural heritage to shape their vocational aspirations, add creative value to their future employers, and serve their communities.

For the 2016-2017 school year, DutchCrafters Amish Furniture will be awarding each of three outstanding students $500 to further their educational goals.

American Express Scholarship

This scholarship was created exclusively for incoming freshman to encourage enrollment in hospitality-related undergraduate programs and attract more students to the lodging industry.  The program is funded from the PepsiCo Foundation Scholarship Fund, proceeds from the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS), and scholarship monies set aside from AH&LEF's New Century Fund Campaign.

Hyatt Hotels Fund for Minority Lodging Management Students

In 1988, Hyatt established this fund to provide financial aid to minority students pursuing a degree in hotel management. Since 1988, approximately 351 minority students have received $702,000 through this scholarship.

Eastern Orthodox Committee
on Scouting

The Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting offers two scholarships.

 NAVY ROTC SCHOLARSHIPThe Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program educates our future Naval Aviators, Surface Warfare Officers, Nuclear Propulsion Officers, Submarine Officers, and Special Warfare Officers by providing scholarships to the finest universities in the country. Students do not have to possess high school JROTC as a prerequisite. The Navy has awarded numerous students in the Southwest region of Texas with Ivy League scholarships to such institutions of higher learning, such as Harvard, Rice, Yale, etc… Top 10% percent (automatically qualify) to apply immediately for the NROTC Scholarship, not only for those who wish to become Naval Officers, but to those students who are seeking funding for college. April 27 TEXAS INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Eligibility:

 

  • Must have competed at the UIL Academic State Meet any year of their high school career OR must be a TSSEC Outstanding Soloist OR must be a state finalist in the Barbara Jordan Historical Essay Competition or the Latino History Essay Competition.
  • Must plan to attend an accredited college or university in the state of Texas
  • Must enroll full-time in college and maintain a 2.5 GPA (Some scholarships require higher GPA)
  • Must have taken either the SAT or the ACT
  • Must be graduating this current year

How to Apply
Complete the online application between March 1 and May 27, 2016, including the submission of:

  • High school transcript
  • SAT/ACT scores
  • Letter of recommendation from your superintendent, principal, assistant principal, UIL coach, or counselor

Jake Jones Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships in Texas for those wanting to attend an accredited university can be even further parsed down beyond this residency requirement alone. For instance, the Jake Jones Memorial Scholarship not only requires that an individual be from Texas, but also that they have a learning disability and demonstrated desire to attend college. Students planning to attend school while facing a learning disability can be very trying on both the mind and body. BJ Dean Scholarship Fund

For students looking for scholarships in Texas, there are several options available through the BJ Dean Scholarship Fund, sponsored by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Students must be a resident of Texas or of Middle Tennessee and must meet other eligibility requirements as well. They must be in college or accepted into an accredited collegiate program and have demonstrated academic ability. Texas 4-H

4-H is a common activity in high schools across Texas. There are thousands of students that enjoy this extracurricular, and sometimes curriculum based, activity. The goal of this program is to teach students about farming and other agricultural elements. With so many programs throughout Texas, it is no wonder that the Texas 4-H and its agricultural partners offer several scholarships in Texas. The main criteria for this scholarship is that a student be from Texas and be a current participant in 4-H. More details are available here.
